Although the reef is a fun and beautiful place to go, there are some environmental problems to be concerned with.
FISHING:
- Mini homemade explosives in beer bottles are made by fishermen to stun large schools of fish. Reefs that have been blasted can no longer provide food or shelter to all of its inhabiting species and that area is now ruined.
Dumping/Pollution
- Human discharge into certain areas near the reef pollute and poison the water and the coral. Oil is a main threat/source.
- Chlorine is also a source
- There are so many nonbiodegradable materials that can be found in the reef. Some include plastics, metal, wood, rubber, and glass can all be found littering coral reefs.
Coral Growth Decline Over the years:
There has been a sudden decline in the growth of coral. It is happening because of several causes. One of them is from the water temperatures changing and fish leaving the area. It also partly because of tourism. This is why we talk to our tourists when they are thinking about visiting the Red Sea. We advise everyone to not pollute and to be very cautious when around or near a part of the reef. Global Warming:
This is a problem that has been going on for years as a result of the greenhouse effect. This is warming the waters all over, especially near the equator and is endangering several species in the water. |
